The Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II is an update to a popular lens. The new design eliminates the kludgy push-pull zoom and goes to the traditional twist-to-zoom capability with adjustable zoom torque.

A new "air-sphere" coating is utilized on this new lens. Shooters should see reductions in ghosting and back-lit flaring compared to the older lens.

New 21 element, 16 group optical design is sharper, especially at 400mm, compared to the older lens. Close focusing to 3.2' with a .31x maximum magnification and a tripod mount which can be removed while mounted to a camera.
